Steel Domain History

The History
Steel Domain Wrestling (SDW) is the second longest running professional wrestling promotion in Minnesota as the legendary AWA holds the title as the longest ever. An impact has been made on the SDW founder "The Architect" Ed Hellier has carefully built his organization in its rise to success.
The promotion’s first card was held January 17, 1998, under the name “St. Paul Championship Wrestling,” which remained until 2001 when the title was officially changed to “Steel Domain Wrestling.”
SDW’s initial television program was called “Ringside,” and had a four-year run on KSTC TV-45 in the Twin Cities from October 2001 through October 2005. It was the first locally produced wrestling program on broadcast television in the Twin Cities market since the glory days of Verne Gagne’s American Wrestling Association (AWA.) Currently, the promotion has a tremendously popular, weekly internet show, “Championship Wrestling from the Twin Cities.” Its format is “old school,” studio-style programming with exciting matches, interviews, live streaming, “Fan of the Week,” trivia contests and more, all adding up to a complete package for wrestling fans. In addition, SDW scooped the wrestling world with the release of “All Access – The 8th Level,” a provocative mini-series spotlighting the feud between world famous wrestlers “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce and Colt Cabana.
Providing the play-by-play for the matches is award-winning commentator and “Voice of Minnesota Wrestling,” “Slick” Mick Karch. Mick is also the match maker and works closely with promoter Ed Hellier, producer Pete Waggoner and head of sales Mark Koval to ensure wrestling fans are treated to a dynamic finished product. Mick is also co-host with Hellier and Waggoner on Steel Domain Radio.
Steel Domain Wrestling has been the breeding ground for some of the greatest talent currently competing in the world of professional wrestling. Amazingly, former world champions C.M. Punk, “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce, Colt Cabana, and Austin Aries are all SDW alumni! Add to the list such accomplished stars as Ace Steel, Shawn Daivari and others, and it is easy to see why SDW is truly revered among the wrestling fraternity and its fan base.
